BMI or Body Mass Index can be obtained by doing a dividing of a person weight by their height square. The weight of a person can be divided by pound or kilo grams, but height should be measured in inches and it must be squared.
To calculate BMI or Body Mass Index, find out how many pounds you weight and how many inches tall you are, then square height in inches.
Now multiple the amount of pound you weight by 703 and divide it by your height square in inches and you are done.
For example. Say i weight 150 pounds and i am 6 feet tall and i wanted to know my body mass index;
First step: I would multiply 150 by 703 which would = 105450.
Second step: i would find out how many inches make 6 feet which would be 72 inches.
Third step: I would multiple 72 by 72 which = 5184.
Fourth step: I would then divide 105450 by 5184 which = 20.3 and i am done!
Body Mass Index formula:
[Weight (in pounds) x 703] / (height in inches)2
Body Mass Index Scale:
Ideal: less than 25
Overweight: greater than 25
Obese: greater than 30
Basically, we are dividing a person’s weight by their body surface area which determines a person’s body mass index.
Body mass index allows us to determine a person’s weight status and categorize their weight in terms of: healthy weight vs a weight that will put them in a category of obesity.
A normal weight person typically is in the range of 18 to 25 and between 25 to 30 persons will be categorized as overweight or obese.
